Welcome Southerners

IPMA-HR is the premier professional organization for public sector human resources professionals. It’s a place where you can collaborate with and learn from your peers. The Southern Region has clarified this in our vision and mission statements:

Vision Statement – To champion the values of IPMA-HR with Southern hospitality and charm.

Mission – The mission of the Southern Region of IPMA-HR is to provide guidance and leadership to our members in a collaborative environment through communication and a focus on training.

To help us fulfill this mission, we sponsor an annual conference. It’s a major event attended by over 250 of your colleagues looking for networking, training, and career development. I attended my first Southern Region conference eight years ago and I was hooked! As a public sector human resources professional, it was the first conference I attended that completely applied to my job and my workplace. At that first conference I met and networked with a group of HR professionals who today are still my colleagues and mentors. People who are just a phone call away when I need a sounding board or advice.

This year’s conference will be held from April 14-17 in my hometown of Oklahoma City and is cohosted by the Oklahoma Chapter of IPMA-HR (IPMA-HROK). This year’s theme is HR Create: Designing HR Solutions for Every Palette and we’d love to see you there. The conference program is full of speakers and topics that will challenge you to grow in your career and return to your job motivated and energized! We will also be offering the IPMA-HR Certification Course this year for those who want to demonstrate their professional competence through certification. If you’re new to the conference, I encourage you to find your special group of advisors at one of the many networking opportunities. If you’ve previously attended a Southern Region conference, you’ll enjoy reconnecting with old friends and making new connections.

I’d also like to encourage you to get involved in the Southern Region and your local IPMA-HR Chapter. You can serve on a committee, help plan a conference, or take on a leadership role. It’s a great way to make contacts and grow as a professional.
